PRACTICE / Wheatstone bridge
A null reading fixes an unknown
A Wheatstone bridge has upper-left 2 Ω, lower-left 3 Ω and upper-right 4 Ω resistors. A source is across top and bottom, and a detector joins the midpoints. The detector reads zero.
Find the lower-right resistance.
Organize the givens & assumptions
- RUL = 2 Ω
- RLL = 3 Ω
- RUR = 4 Ω
- bridge balanced
Ideal steady Wheatstone bridge; null detector carries zero current; source connected between top and bottom nodes as stated.
