PRACTICE / Kirchhoff laws

Which source receives the energy?

A 20 V ideal source and an 8 V ideal reversible source oppose each other in one loop. Two series resistors are 2 Ω and 4 Ω.

At what rate does the 8 V source absorb energy?

Organize the givens & assumptions
  • Opposing emfs: 20 V and 8 V
  • Total resistance: 6 Ω

Settled lumped DC circuit, ideal connecting wires, positive constant Ohmic resistances and no changing external magnetic flux. Sources are ideal except for explicitly specified series resistances. The 8 V source is modeled as capable of reversible energy absorption.
