PRACTICE / Pressure-volume work
A sloping line needs both area and endpoints
A monatomic ideal gas follows a reversible straight line on a p–V diagram from A = (2 L, 100 kPa) to B = (5 L, 160 kPa).
What heat enters along A → B?
Organize the givens & assumptions
- A: V = 2 L, p = 100 kPa
- B: V = 5 L, p = 160 kPa
- Straight p–V segment
Closed fixed amount of ideal gas, constant stated heat capacities, negligible bulk kinetic and gravitational energy changes, and only pressure–volume work. Heat into the gas and work by the gas are positive.
- A
- B
- C
- D
