Find the hidden interface temperature

Two slabs conduct heat in series at steady state. Their thermal resistances from hot to cold are 2 K/W and 6 K/W. The outside faces are fixed at 100°C and 20°C.

Find the interface temperature.

Organize the givens & assumptions
  • Hot outer face: 100°C
  • Cold outer face: 20°C
  • Hot-side thermal resistance: 2 K/W
  • Cold-side thermal resistance: 6 K/W

One-dimensional steady conduction, no internal heating or side losses, and perfect contact. Thermal resistances are constant.
