PRACTICE / Zener voltage regulation
Where does the spare current go?
A 12 V supply feeds a 300 Ω resistor and a node clamped to 6 V by an ideal regulating Zener. A 600 Ω load connects from that node to ground.
Find the Zener current.
Organize the givens & assumptions
- Vs = 12 V
- Vz = 6 V
- Rs = 300 Ω
- RL = 600 Ω
DC steady state; ideal 6 V Zener regulation provided its reverse current is nonnegative; ideal resistors and wires.
